I’m a suburb-dwelling, yoga-practicing mom, writer and adventurous amateur (very amateur!) chef. This blog has become my creative outlet — as my tagline says, a simmering pot where I can write about my asana practice, endeavors in the kitchen, insights learned from my kids…whatever comes to mind. I write anonymously not to hide my identity, but to be free from any self-imposed constraints that might inhibit me.

I’ve been practicing ashtanga yoga for five years now. In 2002, I dragged myself into a local recreation center class called “hatha yoga” taught by a dedicated student of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois’s ashtanga system. At the time, I was about 40 pounds overweight, stressed out by the events of 9/11, and the mom of a kindergartener and a toddler. Yoga was the best thing I could have done for myself. Over time, as I’ve followed the ashtanga system, not only have I become much stronger, aerobically fitter, and more flexible, but my mind has become clearer and more peaceful as well. (Oh, and I dropped about 30 pounds, too!) My husband, Yoga Spell, might not remember, but he bought me my first yoga mat as a Christmas gift, little suspecting that he would eventually be drawn into a yoga practice as well. I’m so pleased that he decided to join me on this journey!

Oh — my two kids will be known here as FreckleBoy (age 12) and FrogGirl (age 9). FreckleBoy is in seventh grade, loves Star Wars, reading fantasy and sci-fi novels, and fencing. FrogGirl is in fourth grade, enjoys soccer and playing piano, and wants to be an architect when she grows up.
