I’ve been getting a lot of hits on an old post from last year, “Spooky Graveyard Cake.” I thought I’d go ahead and repost the photo and instructions, since obviously lots of folks are looking for Halloween cake ideas.
Here’s the close-up:
This isn’t technically a cake — it’s vanilla pudding with crumbled Oreos on top, Milano cookie gravestones, and various decorations. Just make your favorite vanilla pudding and spread it into a 13×9 pan, crush some Oreos and sprinkle them on top, add gravestones, worms, pumpkins, or whatever else you like. I used gel frosting to write RIP on the gravestones. I’ll be making this again for FreckleBoy’s class party next week. Honestly, it doesn’t taste that great, but the kids seem to like it anyway!

This is SO brilliant. I have to go to a theme party on Saturday and I’m totally taking this cake!!! (Especially because it’s just a matter of assembly, and there’s no risk of messing anything up by baking.)
If it doesn’t taste great, I don’t think anyone will notice because they’ll just be too excited about gummy worms. 30 year olds have lots in common with Freckle Boy.

Very creative, yoga mum. Are those worms and pumpkins jelly beans?

OMG, that’s awesome!
Me likey; too bad I don’t have any kiddos to make it for!

(OvO) — I was thinking that you could use regular cake and frosting and sprinkle the Oreos on top of that, too. I don’t see why it has to be pudding. Although pudding has that special slimy feeling
Pretty in the City — The worms are gummy worms and the pumpkins are like candy corn which you probably don’t have in Indonesia. Basically it’s a chewy candy.
Zee — you could make yourself a mini-one in a bowl with just a little pudding!

I made a “dirt” cake for my oldest one time. I used chocolate cake, but I made holes in it and inserted chocolate pudding too so it would be gooey. I think I frosted it then put the oreos on top of that. And gummy worms etc. You can put gummy worms coming out between the layers on a layer cake too. The chocolate cake with chocolate pudding actually tasted quite good.

Mathmom, that sounds awesome! I might try that.
Cranky — yes, we can bring homemade treats! It’s a pretty small school, very friendly and personal. I don’t get to see Annie very much — just a couple times a year — but she’s an amazing teacher. I am very lucky indeed.

Awesome – he’s little young for it right now but I think I’ll bookmark this for next year.
